5 Genius Tools You Should Have in Your Kitchen

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of kitchen gadgets. They make things easier, quicker, and all-around more convenient. As you can imagine, our buying team comes across hundreds, if not thousands, of products that claim to do just that. But only a few make the Hollar cut. The picks that make our list, and hopefully yours, go through a rigorous and (sometimes) messy vetting process in our test kitchen. Basically, we take each product to see where it fares in our list of must-haves. Among the things we consider:

  • Is it easy to use?
  • Does it save time?
  • Does it work for small spaces?
  • Is it budget-friendly?
  • Are we super excited to tell you about it?

Here, we bring you a behind the scenes look of a few items we tried out, vetted, and ultimately decided to bring your way. We hope that you enjoy them just as much as we have!

Multipurpose Citrus Juicer

Brand: Casabella, $5 (Shop Here)

What is it, in a nutshell: A juicer, reamer, and pitcher for citrus fruits—all in one compact tool. It makes the idea of freshly squeezed orange juice feel just a bit more manageable.

Why we love it: The hero here is the pitcher, which works both as storage for leftovers or as an understated serving piece at your brunch or breakfast. And the bonus detachable reamer is icing on the citrus cake, so to speak. Use it to add a finishing touch of lime on the fly, either to a cocktail or dinner recipe.

Magic Flour Sifter

Brand: Bakelicious, $9 (Shop Here)

What is it, in a nutshell: A brilliant way to quickly sift and measure flour without making a total mess.

Why we love it: Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a novice, sifting flower often seems like a step worth skipping. Do it once, see all the dishes that end up dirtied, and make a case for not doing it ever again. This tool changes that. And it’s easy enough for little bakers to use so they feel part of the kitchen fun! Added bonus: easy cleaning and even easier storage.

Multipurpose Egg Separator

Brand: Casabella, $3 (Shop Here)

What it does: Small tool that provides big help by separating egg yolks in an instant. It also pierces eggs to prevent them from breaking when boiling.

Why we love it: It’s worth it for the egg separator function alone. If you, like us, have found yourself fumbling over separating yolks and whites, you’ll understand why this bowl attachment makes life way easier. It’s a great piece to keep in your kitchen drawer since it takes up virtually no space, measuring at just 3” in diameter.

Multifunction 5-Blade Mandolin

Brand: Home Basics, $6 (Shop Here)

What it does: This one unit does everything a mandolin should do–cut straight, crinkle, and julienne slices–in addition to grating fine or coarse cheese.

Why we love it: Tons of function packed in not a ton of space. Notice a theme here? We especially love this gadget for small kitchen spaces since it’s essentially 7 tools in one.

Leftover Avocado Saver

Brand: Dreamfarm, $4 (Shop Here)

What it does: Finally, a way to salvage produce and fruit wedges and halves. Use it to create an airtight seal around avocados, onions, and other fresh foods that are traditionally hard to store.

Why we love it: Avocados are pricey which makes saving leftovers all the more worth it. This piece lets you do that, without any fuss. It just so happens to be made by the folks at Dreamfarm, who seem to share our passion for making your time in the kitchen a bit easier.
